Our Cookies In The German myself Magazine

We are two entrepreneurs from Germany running this holiday cookie venture which started back in 2009 as an additional business. Grown up in Bavaria and Austria as kids we were used to get these delicious traditional Christmas cookies from our moms and grandmothers during Advent. But since we lived in our own home in Hamburg, Germany – far away from mom and grandma – nobody brought us holiday cookies during Christmas time. So we decided to learn this time consuming, laborious art of baking authentic Christmas cookies ourselves. Actually one of us works as automotive engineer the other one as internet entrepreneur who had to deal with websites and keywords day-to-day. This is why we quickly figured out that many people were searching the internet for Keywords like “Authentic German Christmas Cookies”, “Traditional Christmas Cookies” “Get Christmas Cookies Online” etc. And so it was obvious that we would not only bake for ourselves but also for these guys who don’t have the time or patience to bake pastries at home.
The mission was clear. One of us had to get the authentic cookie recipes and to figure out the secrets of how they were baked. The other one had to set up a simple website and to do the paper work. Together with a confectioner we finally were able to offer our Christmas cookies for the first two years in Germany at our first website keksdiddn.com.

In 2011 we moved our business to the U.S. because the automotive engineer of our team got a job here. And the internet entrepreneur of our team just established another company in the United States. Now, still in working in our main profession, we are proud shareholders of the food business based in New York City which serves both countries Germany and the United States with traditional German fancy foods, mainly inspired by the Bavarian and Austrian kitchen.
This was and still is challenging. Because we had to figure out all the legal requirements, find suppliers who could deliver the quality we were looking for etc. We also rented a commercial kitchen, had to get all the required licenses and had to find all the authentic ingredients, new packaging etc. Of course the name of our website also had to be changed. Because nobody except Bavarians would understand what “Keks Diddn” (Bavarian accent for “cookie bag”) means.

Bottom line. We had to make everything from scratch. Just like the food products.
